“Is college what you expected it to be?”
I honestly get asked this question in some way, shape or form quite often. It’s not often you meet someone who is 20 years old, married with a child, working full-time AND going to college. I get a lot of people who ask me “How?” or “Why?”, I’ll answer both of those!
The first question & most often asked is “How?”. Trust me when I saw it is NOT easy. It’s includes a huge amount of time management and self discipline. I have to manage my time as a mother, and sometimes (not very often, but it does happen) I have to spend time locked away from my child to be sure I get my homework done. Sometimes the laundry or the dishes go undone so I can finish homework (ie: this) or work on an assignment. I feel like I am very good at time management, though. I rarely miss assignments, although sometimes I am so exhausted I just give up or don’t have enough energy to open my laptop. I have good grades, and have passed all of my classes thus far.
The second question is “Why?”. I’m sure most students who are also parents have the same answer to this question; Our children. My daughter, Bentlee, is my entire world. She is the reason for everything I do in my life. I want to make her life as easy as possible and make sure I’m a great parent while doing so. Bentlee is my entire world and I do what I do for her.
Overall, I don’t know if college is what I expected it to be. If you would have told me when I graduated high school a little over 3 years ago that I’d be in college, married (for almost two years, nonetheless!) & have a little one & a half year old, I would have probably laughed in your face. College isn’t what I imagined it to be, but I had little to no expectations because it was something I’ve never done before! Now, I feel great and proud to be a student at LATI. I enjoy telling people everything that I do and how I manage to do it.
